Nine best video editing applications

To start my YouTube channel, I’ve had to research dozens of video editing applications. I don’t have much experience in the subject so I had to learn and try several before choosing the best ones.

It is important that we know the software and video editing applications since the demand for video content has increased and will surely continue to do so in the coming years.

Whether you need to edit videos for a personal project or are planning to edit a corporate video, this list of the best video editing apps will help you decide.

What are the best apps to edit videos?

Before presenting the best video editing applications, it is important that we consider the limitations and requirements that we must take into account:

  • Budget: There are free video editing apps and others that can cost hundreds of dollars. If you’re on a budget, you can start with a free app to learn the basics, then migrate to a paid app.
  • Characteristics of your computer: The video format is much more demanding for computers. It requires more capacity, storage, and processing than editing other types of content (presentations, images, audio, etc). Therefore, I recommend you read the minimum specifications that your computer must have before using a video editor.
  • Purpose: Editing a video for social networks is not the same as editing a video for a television commercial. Therefore, define very well what your purpose is before choosing a video editing application.
  • Features: A video editing program allows you to work with filters, transitions, animations, and formats with your videos. Therefore, I recommend creating a short list of the basic features you need before looking for a video editing app.

MiniTool MovieMaker (Windows)

Top video editing applications

MiniTool MovieMaker is a powerful free tool that allows you to easily create and edit high-quality videos in minutes. It’s simple “pick and drop” interface makes it very easy to add titles, transitions, and effects.

Another of its most interesting features is its preset template tool to speed up the editing process. To use it, you just choose a template, import your videos, and then share it with your family and friends.

Apple iMovie (Mac)

If you are a Mac user, Apple iMovie is a free classic video editor to use. It is an easy-to-use program for basic video editing with support for 4K resolutions.

iMovie performs sharply on modern Macs and works well on both the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro.

You can easily import and export video clips, audio, and photos from iCloud. Plus, you can create slideshows and view your projects right on your Apple TV.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC (Windows)

Adobe Premiere Pro CC is a leading video editing application and is the one I currently use on my YouTube channel.

With Premiere Pro CC, you can work with the latest video formats and it’s properly optimized for any screen.

This software is compatible with other major Adobe products such as Adobe Stock, Audition, and After Effects. So you can easily download a motion graphics template from Adobe Stock or After Effects, without leaving the Premiere Pro interface.

Final Cut Pro X (Mac)

Apple’s popular Final Cut Pro X video editing app is an editing suite for professionals that seamlessly blends video features with a smooth learning curve for beginners.

The interface uses a three-panel view with a timeline. Clips can be imported along with videos, audio, titles, voices, effects, and more.

You can use more than 150 video effects, 110 audio effects, 180 title animation templates, and 100 transitions.

Some other great features include multi-camera editing, unlimited video tracks, chroma-keying, plenty of export options, and fairly fast performance, even on older MacBooks.

Video

InVideo allows you to quickly move through the tedious process of video editing with hundreds of pre-designed templates adapted to any type of video. They have dozens of categories of video templates such as sports, technology, and corporate, among others.

InVideo’s online video editor makes it easy for you to create GIFs from videos. Once you know how to turn a video into a GIF, you’ll be all set to get the most out of your marketing strategy.

Best of all, you don’t have to pay anything to get your videos without a watermark. InVideo is definitely the easiest and fastest way to create videos online.
